Dental Veneers From Your Dentist in Chatham

A porcelain or ceramic shell that covers the front surface of teeth, dental veneers are extremely thin, custom-made dental prosthetics that are attached to teeth and alter their length, colour, and shape.

What does the veneer process entail?

Once you’ve shared your smile vision with us during a consultation visit, we’ll examine your teeth to ensure that you’re a viable candidate for dental veneers. X-rays may be taken to check your tooth health, and we’ll explain the process of veneer application and necessary post-treatment steps.

If you’re a candidate for veneers, you’ll need two additional appointments – one for making impressions of your mouth and teeth, and one for veneer placement. Once your veneers have been made – it generally takes between 2 and 4 weeks to have them crafted – your dentist will place them, ensuring they have the correct size, shape, colour, and overall fit for your unique needs. Your tooth or teeth will then be prepared for veneer adhesion. Your dentist will use dental cement to secure the veneer in place and a curing light will harden the cement. Once bonded in place, your dentist will clean the area and check your bite. You may be asked to visit again in a few weeks to check the placement of your veneer(s).

With diligent and focused at-home care, veneers can last upwards of 15 to 20 years. Like your natural teeth, they require flossing, brushing, and regular examinations, and you should avoid using them to chew fingernails or to open plastic packaging to keep them looking great.
